3.3 Application and Future Trends

Application area:
As new enabling technologies are emerging at an unprecedented pace and the standards/specifications in
SOA (service-oriented architectures) are maturing, the attributes and contents of the MAP (Model-centric
Architecting Process) framework tend to expand drastically and some of them become obsolete much faster.
Timely refreshment and frequent reassessment are mandatory to keep pace with the latest advances in the
field.
The strategic planning and execution process also need to be revalidated accordingly.
Future Trends:
Building domain-oriented reference models, implementation patterns, and best practice styles, closer
alignment with business process strategy/architecture, capability maturity, and governance policies/program.
Since the difficulties in SOA architecting practices are beyond technical challenges, large organizations must
make sociological changes in mindset to adopt the engineering practices and overcome the cultural barriers
during the transition.
Other disciplines must be leveraged and incorporated as well, to establish an overarching methodical
approach to sustainable architecture designs.
