Summary

The basic goal of the Internetwork Management Architecture (IMA) is to provide a flexible and robust framework
using which effective internetwork management could be ensured.
We should implement network management tools that provide functional capabilities and enhance strategic
capabilities while considering people, processes, and technology.
The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is one of the best-known network management
technologies which facilitate the exchange of management information between network devices.
RMON is well-known technology that implements management by delegation. It enables various network
monitors and console systems to exchange network-monitoring data while providing network administrators
with more freedom to meet their particular networking needs.
Management interfaces and protocols define their rules of engagement over a management network. The
management agent acts as a proxy who represents the real world for management purposes. The
management system acts as a proxy for the operational support organization.
Another consideration is to maintain the security options of the corporate network which will be discussed in
the next lesson.
