Vowel
A type of sound for which there is no closure of the throat or mouth at any point where vocalization occurs
Consonant
A sound in spoken language that is characterized by a constriction or closure at one or more points along the vocal tract

Types of vowels where two vowel sounds are connected in a continuous, gliding motion
Digraph
A group of two successive letters whose phonetic value is a single sound.
Syllable
A syllable is a unit of sound composed of a central peak of sonority (usually a vowel), and the consonants that cluster around this central peak.
