Summary

We can possibly summarise the primary factors inherent in this lesson into the following points:

• You are aware through the exhibition of the desirous prescribers of the third obscurity that they say:
If we turn towards the saints and righteous in supplication, expectation, seeking aid, seeking assistance,
sacrifice, oaths, submission, servitude, compulsion, breakdowns, circulating around their tombs, holding
fast to it in devotion and prayer and similar acts of worship, along with other forms of sacrifices we are not
polytheists by these practices nor have we committed shirk. This is because if when we practice such
practices we are requesting from Allah the All Exalted by means of their intercession and intermediary
and eminent status and closeness to Allah the Magnificent. This is their understanding of attainment
(التوسل) intercession and intermediary. Similarly the extremist prescribers of the fourth obscurity exhibit
their obscurity rationalizing it by saying that when we turn to the saints verily we are requesting from what
Allah the All Exalted has given them from intercession, position and closeness not to mention the
Messenger of Allah PBUH how can you accuse whosoever performs such practices with shirk?
Supposedly you should accuse with shirk those who turn to idols and statues in such practices.

Summary

• It has been made evident to you that the lawful attainment (التوسل): it is all means endorsed by Islamic
law which has previously been defined. There are many kinds of this type of attainment (التوسل) although
scholars differ in their numeration of them they collectively meet in three divisions:

     • To draw close through the Divine Names and Attributes of Allah
     • To draw close to Allah the All Exalted in supplication of aspiration that expects its supplicating
        to be answered
     • To draw close to Allah the All Exalted through virtuous deeds

Similarly it has been made clear to you that unlawful attainment (التوسل) means to draw close to Allah the
All Exalted through unfruitful means, i.e. through means not recognized by Islamic law. It is of two types:
The first type: to be a means that Islamic law chose to keep quiet on, and secondly: the attainment (التوسل)
of the polytheists regarding their statues and idols and the attainment (التوسل) of the ignorant people
on desires regarding the saints and the righteous.

Summary

• From what we have discussed we presented that the linguistic definition of intercession (الشفاعة) is: to
merge with for his aid and the intercession (الشفاعة) means to merge two things and to compare between
them. It is derived from intercession which is the opposite of oppression. The preferred technical definition
for intercession (الشفاعة) is: “interceding for another to procure benefit and to ward off harm.”

• It is clear to you that established intercession (الشفاعة) is confirmed that the Prophet PBUH intercedes
on the Day of Judgement. Other times other intercessors intercede like the Angels, Prophets and Believers
whilst at other time the Quran and fasting intercede. Like his intercession in opening the gate of heaven
for its inhabitants: and the intercession in easing the punishment of the deserving and the intercession
in elevating the status of some of the inhabitants of heaven. As for the rejected form of intercession (الشفاعة)
: it is what is rejected by the Noble Quran and correct transmission and sound intellect also reject it. It is
that which is sought by the extremist grave worshippers and their like along with their intercession (الشفاعة)
which is claimed by the polytheist for their idols. It is also mentioned in this obscurity that we are currently
discussing the refutation of their claims.
