8.4 General Characteristics of Islamic educational curriculum


We can say that we are in front of an Islamic education curriculum when we see it contains the following characteristics.

The content

The subjects upon which Islamic education curriculum should work are the following.

The Holy Quran and its sciences such as; recitation, interpretation, the causes of revealing and many
more.
The Hadith and its sciences; Al mustalah (the science that distinguishes between the right Hadith and
the false one), the men and many other.
The Feqeh (jurist) which means: "knowing the legal instructions which were driven from their detailed
evidence". These instructions concern the worshiping acts and the dealing among people acts.
The Prophetic Syrah (the biography and the life story of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) from the moment of
his birth to the moment of his death. This content is useful for the student (in case it is from right sources
such as the e Holy Quran and the Hadith ) in giving them more information about Islam as well as good
examples to follow. It explains some situations that Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) has passed by and how
he and his followers have treated them.

8.4 General Characteristics of Islamic educational curriculum


The creed: it means all the information which Allah has sent to us through his book (The Quran) or his
messengers Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) in which students should believe. For it is the origin of Islam
and ignoring it will lead to the worst end.

The Objectives

The curriculum planners, usually, start their work by state the objectives which are driven from the needs exist in the society. The Islamic objectives have their own source which are the Holy Quran and the Sonna. Islam, here, is responsible for stating these objectives which, of them, are the following;

Planting the faith, the right faith, in students hearts with all its branches.
Strengthening the relation between the student and Allah.
Strengthening the relation between the student and the Holy Quran.
Strengthening the relation between the student and the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh).
Recognizing the strong relation between faith and science.
Recognizing the importance of Al Jihad (struggling).
Fighting all kinds of distinguishing among the members of the Islamic nation.

8.4 General Characteristics of Islamic educational curriculum


The foundations of teaching and learning

Any place where Muslims can perform the prays is valid as a place of teaching starting from the homes, Kutab and mosques till schools and universities.

The duration of learning

Islamic education should cover every stages of life since Muslim ought to learn from his childhood till his death whether he is new in Islam or an old one.

Methods of teaching

All available methods of teaching are valid such as lecture (in school, universities, institutions, mosques, Radio and T.V, discovering, conversations, self learning, etc...)

Testing the curriculum

The testing operation will be on.

The way we present the contents not the contents itself which we believe that are correct.

8.4 General Characteristics of Islamic educational curriculum


The teacher; their abilities to teach and to use the modern teaching equipments by remarking and
following up.

The student; where we are going to test;

The amount of information and knowledge they have got.
The behaviors that have been changed.


The evaluation of the Islamic educational curriculum

This will be available through the opinions of the inspectors, headmasters and the teachers when they respond to a well designed questionnaire that aims at measuring the differences between the planned targets and the actual results.

The development of the curriculum

Also, this will not concern the contents themselves but the ways of presenting them, the techniques and the way of using the equipments.
