2.4 The Mustansiriyah


It was considered the greatest example that showed to which extent the Islamic schools resched. It was built by The Abbassian Khalifa " Al Mustanser Bellah " in Bagdad in the period( 625- 631) A.H. " on an area of M2 ( 4836) . It was like a miracle in its construction, its position and its different sections. It cost, then, seven hundreds thousands of Dinars. It has got four great Iwans for the four Islamic doctrines. There were a special teacher for every doctrine who was teaching for more than 57 students who were learning freely. A monthly salary is paid for every teacher and a monthly subside for every poor student.

The situation, where this school was built, was a great evidence to the importance of schools in the Islamic world. It was built in a great garden that on the river side and it was surrounded by trees. Its sources of finance were a great Waquf which its revenues were reached nine hundreds thousands Dinars . The number of the employees and workers was five hundred people. It has got twenty teachers. This number was great comparing to the nearest school where it was only five teachers.

It has got a great library of books which contained, nearly, eighty thousands books. Much of these books, now, are found in many libraries all over the world.


2.4 The Mustansiriyah


It, also, has got sixteen excellent demonstrators who repeated the lessons, to the students, after the teacher.

All kinds, known, of sciences were taught in this school even the medicine.

Its headmaster was chosen from among the highest cadre of the governmental employees. He was responsible for managing everything concerning it. There were many assistants helping him. The students were chosen from the other schools from among who were famous for intelligence and authoring books. The students were from everywhere in the Islamic world. They learned many subjects and sciences.

It continued doing its job and saving the Islamic culture and sciences till it was destroyed in the year 803 A. H. by the order of Taimor Lenk the king of Magool.
