4.1 Semantics on the Web

Semantics refers to the meaning or concepts of the information that’s being shared. Syntax refers to the means by which the information is transferred. Adding semantics to a web of data requires the ability to define concepts and relationships precisely in a manner that transcends syntax.
Vocabularies, Taxonomies, and Ontologies
A vocabulary is a collection of unambiguously defined terms used in communication.
Taxonomy is a vocabulary in which terms are organized in a hierarchical manner.
Ontology uses a predefined, reserved vocabulary of terms to define concepts and the relationships between them for a specific area of interest, or domain.
