1 Data Terminal Equipment A device, e.g. a computer, that generate data to be communicated to some destination.
2 Circuit-Terminating Equipment (DCE) An interfacing device between a DTE and a transmission medium or a network.
3 The EIA-232 (RS-232) Standard) A standard that specifies the relation between the DTE and the DCE, published by the Electronic Industry Association (EIA).
4 Null Modem An RS-232 connection setup that allows two DTEs to communicate directly bypassing the DCEs (modems).
