3.9 Management-Level Systems


This is the middle path between the operational and strategic levels of business IS.
Management-level system allows management in the decision making process on a scale not as frequent as the daily operation, yet not as long termed the strategic level.
This type of business maintains a smooth control of cyclic reporting where specific information needs to be produced along the business cycle to keep a view on how performance is,
for example in relation to monthly/quarterly targets.
In addition to keeping all the business activities in line, management-level systems help review and adapt decisions on regular basis so that the business affairs are not solely reliant on strategic long term reviews where things can go out of hand before the organization is aware.
The example in Figure 3.5 illustrates how a management level system is based on a knowledge based system.
