2.6 Technical Approach


This approach focuses on the technicalities of the IS in place.
A mathematical business approach, a computer science approach or a management science approach can be considered in this technical framework as shown in Figure 2.4.

2.6 Technical Approach


The mathematical business approach is based on testing the IS inherited in the business through the use of mathematical modeling tools.
The computer science approach refers to the characteristics of computers and computing in general.
Approaching IS from this angle allows for an overview of the computer capabilities and allows for advancement which is in correlation with the business goals.
The management science approach sheds light on the decision making models that can be implemented in organizations to aid managers.
Examples of this approach include IS managing stock and costs.
The emphasis is on efficiency and effectiveness – resulting in creating value for businesses and generating profit.
Overall the technical approach is concerned with the technicalities of IS deployed within businesses.
