Managers can be classified by their level in the organization. A manager is someone who coordinates and oversees the work of other people so that organizational goals can be accomplished. It is not about personal achievement but helping others do their job. Managers may also have additional work duties not related to coordinating the work of others. The responsibilities of a manager can best be described through the management functions, roles and skills.

Management involves coordinating and overseeing the work activities of others so that their activities are completed efficiently and effectively. However, there are differences in the underlying principles of management between conventional and Islamic management. From the differences we are able to gauge that it takes more in Islam for a manager to fulfil his duties or responsibilities successfully.

Management is the attainment of organizational goals in an effective and efficient manner through planning, organizing, leading, and controlling organizational resources.

All organizations share the three main characteristics namely are firstly having a distinct purpose which typically expressed in terms of goals that the organization hopes to accomplish, secondly composed of people, developing some deliberate structure.

There are three main reasons why the study of management has value: 1) the universality of management, 2) reality of work 3) how management applies to entrepreneurs.
